Which of the four drivers of globalisation has been the most influential in the expansion of Beyond Meat and to what extent do you think it is a globalised business? COST, GOVERNMENT, COMPETITION AND MARKET???
Using the written communication skills you have developed in LB170, write an essay that provides a well-supported response to these questions, drawing on the case study articles and relevant business concepts taught in this module.
Your essay should contain:
an introduction
a main body, which develops your argument
a conclusion that summarises key points of the essay and answers the questions.
Part 1 of the TMA is intended to assess your ability to write an effective business essay by applying relevant business concepts to develop your argument. You may benefit from applying your tutor’s feedback on previous written TMAs to this assignment where relevant.
Guidance notes – Part 1
In this part of the TMA, you are required to use the business essay writing skills taught in Session 20 of this module. You should also draw on skills for developing arguments (Sessions 11, 13 and 15) and persuasive writing skills (Sessions 8 and 9). Additionally, you need to make use of the following skills taught in this module:
selecting relevant information and synthesising it
using business concepts to analyse business information
identifying causes and effects
building an argument
writing persuasively
interpreting numerical information.
Follow these guidelines to help you as you write this part of your TMA:
In preparation, once you understand what the Part 1 questions require, read the Case study (three articles) carefully, to select the relevant information you need to answer them. See Session 20, Section 20.4 for guidance on handling assignment questions.
Use business concepts related to globalisation in your essay. Re-visit Session 20, Section 20.5 on the topic of globalisation.
Before you start writing, develop an outline of your essay (see Session 20, Section 20.6). Add the information from the case study and the module (key concepts) to each relevant section of your essay outline.
Use subheadings in your essay if they are meaningful and help to signpost to the reader.
Write a brief introduction to your essay. See Session 20, Section 20.7 on how to write your introduction effectively. Introduce the key concept(s) that you will use in the essay.
Write the main body paragraphs of the essay by framing them with key concepts. Ensure each paragraph moves from general to particular. As taught in Session 20, Section 20.8, you need to build your argument by stating a main point or claim supported by evidence.
You may organise each main body paragraph using one of the four drivers of globalisation, which can be found in Session 20, Section 20.5. Define them in your own words. Analyse Beyond Meat’s business expansion using these drivers.
Use suitable linking words, reference words and business terms for each paragraph. See ‘Using language to focus on the main point in your essay paragraph’ in Section 16.3 in Book 1: Handbook for Business Communication
Use cause-and-effect language to explain or give reasons for your argument.
Write your conclusion to the essay by summarising the key points and answering the Part 1 questions. See Session 20, Section 20.10 for more information about writing an effective conclusion.
Use the correct in-text citations for all the sources you consulted to write the essay. You must cite the case study itself (i.e. the three articles).
Provide a full list of references for your essay at the end of Part 1 of this TMA. The module contains a number of activities to help you learn how to reference correctly, following the referencing style in the Cite them right referencing guide. When you cite any material from this module which is online, follow the advice provided in the section called Online module materials.
