PLEASE WATCH THE RIGHT FILMS AND GET DATES RIGHT. ONLY USES SOURCES PROVIDED. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS I REALLY NEED TO GET AN A. Saboteur (1942) and The Manchurian Candidate (1962) explore the meaning of treason and conspiracy as a crime of arrogance, psychological adherence to the enemy, and seduction. Explain how the fear of “Fifth Columnists” poisoning minds in World War II was transformed into the danger of brainwashing in the Korean War and the Cold War. Be sure to analyze how both films rely on realism and absurdity, sacrificial deaths, and invisible enemies hiding behind masks of respectability and patriotism. How do these films represent popular attitudes about Nazi sabotage, double agents, as well as the Cold War culture of McCarthyism and indoctrination. Your second paper assignment will be graded based on the quality of the writing, the clarity and sophistication of the analysis, and your ability to marshal historically significant examples from the films, readings, and lectures. Define your terms and select the “best” historical evidence (i.e., popular beliefs, trials, political figures, and government policies) to prove your points. Be sure to have a thesis.
You can ONLY use material drawn from the lectures and assigned readings listed below. You must demonstrate a knowledge of the assigned readings and the lectures. You should use page numbers, double-spacing, one-inch margins, and 12-point type. The paper should be only five pages–no longer.
