The words “narrative” and “story” are often used interchangeably. Your narrative should discuss your anticipation and expectations upon entering the class. It should also analyze the slave codes as a tool to promote illiteracy during the 19th-20st century (featured in Kindred) and how its impact resonates today. You can refer to other items such as reading assignments, journals, discussions etc. explaining how engaging in these activities helped you understand the course content. I have included 2 of my papers that discuss black violence / black aesthetic. You may reference these, but the writing is mostly personal and discusses the way in which illiteracy was promoted and and how literary forms change overtime according to the period in which it was produced (e.g. slave narratives, novels, plays, poetry etc.).
